Situated next to Fat Monkeys is this lovely new establishment offering elegantly decorated rooms (with lofts) for singles, couples or families. MacLodge has new (2006) comfy rooms for about $80 for a single with breakfast and dinner included. There are 10 simple en suite rooms, half of which are right on the beach. There is no A.C. but there is a fan in each room, mosquito nets, bathrooms are nice and big with great water pressure and hot water.
Some of the things that set this place apart from the others is the French cuisine and a small pool. Food is great - fresh fish, pastas, steak, desserts... a nice menu, and always good. Bar is well stocked, and there is satellite TV, some games, and WIFI. Bar does close Malawi time - 10pm or so. But you can walk on the beach next door to Fat Monkeys - a younger hostel crowd with a fun little bar. There is also a Hobie Cat you can sail for free is you stay here.
